Talent Top 10 - a Staff Spotlight with Lee Fulsher

By Axis Marketing

In our Talent Top 10 series we give readers the chance to get to know the friendly faces behind the Axis Insurance Group agencies. This week we asked 10 questions to our talented staff member Lee Fulsher - Commercial Insurance Account Executive.

LeeFulsher

1. What's involved in your current role at Shaw Sabey & Associates? Did you start in this role or did you take a specific career path to get here?

I started at Shaw Sabey about a decade ago when I knew nothing about insurance and very little about business in general.  I was hired as a Commercial Lines Processor/Gofer but have since moved up as a commercial insurance Account Executive. Today, I'm responsible for sales, servicing and consultation regarding insurance products and risk management for current and prospective clientele.

2. What skills (technical and soft) would make someone successful in this role?

I would say it takes:

  • Strong communication and people skills
  • Thick skin
  • The ability to do best work under pressure and deadlines
  • Negotiation skills
  • Patience
  • Empathy
  • Natural curiosity
  • An even temperament
  • And perhaps math skills (which I severely lack)

3. What have you always wanted to try or do but never have?

I've always wanted to try driving a Formula One race car or a monster truck!

4. If you could add one thing to the Shaw Sabey office, what would it be?

Having something in the office like a ping pong table, pool table or fooseball table could be a lot of fun.

5. If you could go back to when you first started at Shaw Sabey, what's on piece of advice you'd give to your past-self?

Don't wait for things to happen. Make things happen.

6. What's your favourite move?

I'd say Shawshank Redemption for something in the drama category or Old School if I want to watch comedy.

7. If you had to eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Pizza, no question but would require at least 15 different topping options to variety.

8. What's the culture of your team?

I find it hard to describe culture, but I would like think our team is down-to-earth, respectful, creative, thoughtful, honest, practical and efficient.

9. You’ve been granted three wishes from a Genie, what do you ask for?

  1. Ability to time travel.
  2. Ability to fly.
  3. And lastly, a couple billion dollars - I'm not greedy.

10. What's the last book you read?

For fiction, it was The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and for non-fiction it was Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari.
